geography
Mount Everest or Mount Chomolungma, is the world's highest mountain above sea level at 8,848 metres. It is located in the Himalayas on the Nepal -China (Tibet) border. The highest mountain in the world attracts many well-experienced mountaineers as well as novice climbers who are willing to pay substantial sums to professional mountain guides to complete a successful climb. The mountain, while not posing substantial technical climbing difficulty on the standard route, still has many inherent dangers such as altitude sickness, weather and wind. These challenges are what attract many hikers to the famous Mount Everest, in search of the glory of finishing the climb. Therefore, climbers are a significant source of tourist revenue for Nepal. The government requires all prospective climbers to obtain an expensive permit, costing up to US $ 25,000 per person.
However, there are many dangers on the mountain itself. Such would include the
harsh weather and terrain. The conditions can be so difficult in the death zone (altitudes higher than 8,000 m/26,246 ft) that most
corpses have been left where they fell. Some of them are visible from standard climbing routes.
Mount Everest climbers need a lot of
specialized gear, including clothing, tools and supplies. If you're going on a guided expedition, you should carefully check to see what they'll provide. You should also test all of your gear before the trip. However, neither modern equipment nor professional expertise can eliminate the challenge or the inherent difficulties.
Paying for a fully guided trip does not guarantee success, nor does extensive experience eliminate risk. Climbing Mount Everest remains, to this day, a daunting and formidable challenge as climbers continue to push the envelope of
human endurance and strength of will.
